Heavy Haul Trailer Quote: What to Tell ETA First

Getting a heavy haul trailer quote is easier when we understand the work you need the trailer to do. The more detail you can provide about your load, prime mover, loading method and usual routes, the easier it is to recommend a configuration that suits your operation, not just provide a generic price.

You do not need every answer before getting in touch. If a measurement or detail still needs checking, let us know. We can help identify what matters before the trailer specification is finalised.

Start with the load

Tell us what you carry most often, as well as the biggest or most demanding load you expect to move.

For machinery and plant, include the travelling weight, length, width and height, plus any buckets, booms, implements or attachments that remain fitted during transport. For bulk materials, let us know the material, expected volume and how it will be loaded and discharged.

If you carry a range of loads, explain the difference between the normal day-to-day job and the occasional oversized or heavier job. This can affect whether a standard trailer is suitable or whether you may need a widener, extendable or different axle configuration.

Explain how you load

How the load gets onto and off the trailer is just as important as its size and weight.

A machine driven up ramps needs a different arrangement from freight loaded by forklift or crane. Let us know about the loading and unloading sites too, particularly if access is tight, the ground is uneven or space is limited.

For example, drop decks can be suited to machinery that needs ramp access, while side tippers are designed for bulk materials that need to be discharged at the destination. The right trailer depends on the actual job, from pickup through to delivery.

Include your truck and route

Your trailer needs to work with the complete combination, so let us know what prime mover you are using. Details such as the fifth-wheel arrangement, ratings and intended use can affect the recommended setup.

It also helps to know where the trailer will operate. Are you running between the same sites each week, working across regional areas, or travelling between states? Low bridges, access restrictions, road conditions and oversized-load requirements can all influence the final configuration.

A quick checklist

Before requesting a quote, have the following details ready where possible:

  • Load: What are you carrying, how much does it weigh and what are its travelling dimensions?
  • Loading method: Will it be driven on, forklifted, craned or otherwise loaded?
  • Sites: Are there ramps, tight access, uneven ground or limited loading space?
  • Prime mover: What truck will tow the trailer?
  • Route: Where will the trailer operate, and are there any known restrictions or approval requirements?
  • Work pattern: Is it daily work, seasonal work or an occasional specialised job?

If you need extra width for broad agricultural equipment or oversized machinery, a drop deck widener may be worth discussing. For longer loads, an extendable configuration may be more practical. ETA Trailers can assess the load, route and prime mover details to help narrow down the right option.
